M and C’s bridal portraits at Saugatuck Dunes State Park was seriously such an incredible experience. These two had their wedding in the mountains of South Carolina the year before, but didn’t have as much time for portraits as they would have liked. M also hadn’t gotten her veil in yet, so we knew we needed to do something with it!
C and M had some ideas of where they wanted to go, but didn’t have a concrete location nailed down. And I’ve always loved the dunes at Saugatuck. Not only because you have Lake Michigan about a mile from the parking lot, but you also have lush trees and greenery as well as open field. And if you’re lucky (which we totally were) you get a killer golden hour.
We started in the fields just outside of the Felt Mansion and slowly made our way out to the lake. I’ve mentioned it already, but the fact that you have such variety in one spot, it adds so much. The different style of photos you’re able to get is amazing. The golden hour in the field is perfect. And we still had a decent amount of light in the forest while we walked out to the water. And then ending the night with blue hour out on Lake Michigan was an amazing way to end M and C’s bridal portraits.
If you’re wondering if Bridal Portraits are for you, here are a couple things to think about. First: how much time are you wanting to dedicate to portraits on your wedding day? If you’re trying to jam too much into your day, then you’re going to feel rushed and like you’re on a schedule. Second: if you have friends and family from out of town that you haven’t seen in awhile, you’re not going to want to be spending time on your wedding day away from all of them taking photos. So instead, have your photographer around for the coverage on your day that you want, and then schedule another session after (or even before if you’re feeling it) to get more portraits in your wedding attire.
I promise you, you won’t regret having more photos with your love. Because a third reason to do a bridal portrait session is that you’re not running on such a strict timeline. You have an hour (or two depending on what you schedule) and you can relax and really take your time. It also gives your photographer a chance to get creative and get shots that they might not have thought of in the rush of the moment on your wedding day. Food for thought! Now onto M and C’s bridal portraits at Saugatuck Dunes!
